TANZANITE

One source on Earth

Tanzanite is blue to violet zoisite, found in one place: a small area of the Merelani Hills in northern Tanzania, discovered in 1967. No other deposit is known.

Almost all tanzanite is heated to develop its blue, and that is accepted practice. Stones a top laboratory reports as unheated are exceptionally rare, and only those qualify for Vault Trade; heated tanzanite belongs on Stock Trade, with the heating stated.
