MORGANITE

Pink beryl, named for a collector

Morganite is pink to peach beryl, coloured by manganese. It was named in 1911 after the financier J.P. Morgan, a great collector of gemstones.

Madagascar, Brazil and Mozambique produce it. Colour deepens with size, so small stones are pale and the strong pinks come in larger sizes. Much morganite is heated to remove a yellow or orange tint.
